Begin my devotion time with prayer.
Day 1
*Preparing my heart: I am to ask God to quiet my heart and to speak to me through His Word. I am to ask Him to shine the light of His truth into my life. In this quiet moment, I am to surrender myself to Him and commit to obey whatever He shows me.
Read Psalm 1, thoughtfully and prayerfully.
Prayer
Confession: agree with God abut any areas where I may have adopted ungodly ways of thinking or living. Supplication: ask God to give me a greater love and hunger for His Word. Intercession: Use this passage as a basis to pray for someone whom God places on my heart.
Take Away Thought
What key thought, phrase, or verse from this psalm will I take with me into my day?
When I am feeling as if I may not matter to the Lord, me and my life's problems, that I am not worthy of His time, I am reminded of the verse in this passage - "and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither..."
When I committed my life to the Lord, I was like that tree planted and my leaf will not wither.
I do matter to the Lord and I will thrive on the rivers of water. That water is the Living Water, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
